When you shop second-hand, one of the most important things to understand is how condition is assessed. At Generosity, we use a clear, consistent grading system so you always know exactly what you're getting — no surprises when your parcel arrives.
Our Condition Grades Explained
Like New
These items show no visible signs of wear. They may have been worn once or twice, or still have original tags attached. You'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart from something bought brand new.
Excellent
Items in excellent condition have been gently used and are very well maintained. There may be the faintest signs of wear — perhaps a tiny mark on the sole of a shoe or a slight softening of fabric — but nothing that affects appearance or function.
Good
Good condition items show normal signs of use. Think light pilling on a jersey, minor scuffs on shoes, or slight fading on denim. These are everyday items that have been loved and still have plenty of life left in them.
Fair
Fair condition items are clearly pre-loved. They may have more visible wear, small repairs, or minor flaws. We always describe these clearly in the product listing so you can make an informed decision. Fair condition items are priced accordingly and are great for everyday use.
How We Inspect Every Item
Before anything goes live on our store, every item goes through a hands-on inspection. We check:
- Seams and stitching for integrity
- Zips, buttons, and fastenings for function
- Fabric for stains, pilling, or damage
- Labels and care instructions where present
- Overall shape and structure
If an item doesn't meet our minimum standard for Fair condition, it doesn't make it onto the store.
